The Pediatrics Residency program at the University at Buffalo officially started using Smart Sign Out this week. The chief residents and I spent all day Saturday adding patients into the new system and training residents on how to use our software.
I am really enjoying working with Amanda and Jen — they are the champions behind this new sign out initiative, which has ensured the transition is as smooth as possible for all parties involved. I can’t thank them enough for their support.
When you bring on six new teams at once, the number of users increases significantly — and so does the amount of feedback and suggestions you receive! This is all good for us — the more people using SSO and testing it, the better. We tackled as many of the “easy” suggestions and quick fixes, and pushed those updates immediately.
Here’s what’s new on the web as of 11/20/12
IV Access, Diet, O2 Tabs
New tabs have been added to the Medication section for IV Access, Diet, and O2 notes.
Similar to the Labs/Imaging and Night Coverage tabs, these fields are free text. Changes made to these fields will overwrite the old value. They will not be saved in history. These fields will appear on the PDF print out under the first column.
Cover Sheet Editor
There is a new feature on the Settings page that will allow you to create and edit a cover sheet for the printable sign out for each team. To access this feature, click the gear icon in the upper right hand corner of the web application.
Please note that you must have a default team set to use this feature. The default team that is set will be the team’s cover sheet you will create or edit. Use the on-screen editor to build your cover sheet. You can return to it at any time to make updates and changes. When you print the sign out, this sheet will automatically be added as the first page.
Save and Continue
When you are creating diagnoses, medications, tasks, allergies, and notes, the data entry window will now remain open after you save a new item. This will allow you to enter multiple items more quickly. If you have just one item to enter, you can close the data entry window easily by clicking anywhere away from it or by clicking the little X in the upper right of it. Editing an item will still close the window immediately.
Session Timeout Warning
HIPAA regulation states that a user must be logged out of the system after a 20 minute period of inactivity. While our software has always obeyed this rule, it did not always let you know it was about to happen. We’ve added a 5 minute warning to the system to let you know that you will be logged out if you do not take action on your account.
